Dr Ooi Lai Hock graduated from United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy’s and St Thomas’s Hospitals, UK, in 1996. Thereafter, he further his medical training in Orthopaedic Surgery and obtained a Master of Medicine (Singapore) and FRCS (Edinburgh) in Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr Ooi’s subspecialty areas of training are foot and ankle surgery as well as knee reconstructive surgery. Common conditions managed by Dr Ooi include bunions and ankle sprains. As such, Dr Ooi performs procedures such as minimally invasive corrective osteotomies for bunions and arthroscopic ankle lateral ligament reconstructive surgery. Other surgical procedures for the foot and ankle would include endoscopic surgical treatment of plantar fasciitis (chronic heel pain) and flat feet surgery.
Dr Ooi’s current interest is the surgical treatment of cartilage injuries and osteoarthritis of the knee, foot and ankle using biological and stem cell medical products, and scaffold implants.
His many achievements include Top 10 Teacher award for 2007-8 in Tan Tock Seng Hospital; Silver Excellent Service Award recipient for 2008; First Prize for Best Research Paper Award 2008, Singapore Medical Journal.

Dr Ooi was a former Medical Board Member, Deputy Head and Consultant at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Tan Tock Seng Hospital. He was also Division Chief of the Foot & Ankle, and Sports Medicine Services. In addition, he holds dual sub-specialty areas of expertise in foot and ankle surgery, as well as hip and knee surgery, after receiving his sub-specialty training at the Perth Orthopaedic Institute, Australia, under the Ministry of Health HMDP Training Award programme
Dr Ooi has also conducted extensive research, which has been published in local and international medical journals.

Dr Ooi is also a member of International Cartilage Regeneration and Joint Preservation Society, Asian Federation of Foot & Ankle Surgeons, event doctor for the Singapore Rugby Union and a former member of the Singapore Orthopaedic Association and AO Trauma.
